Alvin Erasga Tolentino has gathered diverse artists for a new dance presentation in Vancouver.

[fulltext] =>

The Philippine-born and Canada-trained dancer and choreographer has put together Passages of Rhythms, featuring different styles and showing on November 6 to November 9 at The Nest in Granville Island (1398 Cartwright Street, 3rd floor). The shows start at 8 p.m.

Passages of Rhythms awakens, provokes and celebrates the contemporary body and interconnections with cultural rhythms and sounds to distill the complexity of movements to pure expression,” according to an announcement for the show.

The media release notes that Tolentino will take centre stage in “an evening of three dynamic duets, featuring three diverse artists, showcasing three different genres – Flamenco, Bharatanatyam, and voices for the body”.

The release further states that Passages of Rhythms is a “hybrid full-length evening of cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration”.

“In this unique fusion of tradition and contemporary movements, Passages of Rhythms blends cultures enabling the body to move and transform through complex rhythms, sensation, shapes, and voices,” according to the announcement.

The production is a collaboration with Vancouver’s Chinese-Canadian Flamenco artist Kasandra “La China”, Indo-Canadian Bharatanatyam dancer Sujit Vaidya, and Montreal voice artist Gabriel Dharmoo.

“Tolentino exposes his choreographic and performance signature style through inter-generational exchanges and sharing the different practices of Pan-Asian rigor across dance disciplines,” the announcement states.

Tolentino is the creative force behind Co.ERASGA, a Vancouver dance company that has earned an international reputation for its creative collaborations.

Co.ERASGA is marking its 19th year in 2019.

Alvin Erasga Tolentino has gathered diverse artists for a new dance presentation in Vancouver.

[fulltext] =>
