Twelve artists from Canada, the U.S., and the Philippines are featured in an exhibit titled Pagtitipon 2019. The show will be held July 16 to 21 at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre in Vancouver.

Pagtitipon 2019 follows the successful 2015 collaboration mounted by the Filipino Music and Art Foundation in B.C. (FMAFBC). In a media release, founder Lenore RS Lim explains, “These exhibits expose the creative and artistic talents of Filipinos while promoting appreciation and understanding of fine arts in the community at large.”

Famed visual artist and founder of Kasibulan, an artists’ collective in the Philippines, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya curates the 2019 exhibit where she has grouped participating artists into four disciplines: landscape and floral painting, figurative art, abstract art and peculiar genre, which includes fibre andthread art, and contemporary tattoo art.

Canadian Filipino artists included in the line-up are Edgaro Lantin, Tessie Dichupa, Danvic Briones, Ileta Buenaventura, Jo Galang, Bert Monterona, Esmie Gayo McLaren, Lenore RS Lim and Mayo Landicho.

Joining them are Rico Lascano and Aze Ong from the Philippines, and Lorina Capitulo from the U.S.

Endaya notes that Pagtitipon 2019 gathers the “vistas, expressions and outlook from the global community of Filipino artists.”

The exhibit is presented by the FMAFBC with the support of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver, and the Global Pinoy Diaspora Canada. A reception will be held on July 17 from 6:30 p.m. at the Gerry Thorne Exhibition Hall in the Roundhouse with Dr. Fuyubi Nakamura, curator at Museum of Anthropology UBC, as guest speaker.
