It is an integral part of the cultural values of the Filipinos to take care, honor and protect their elders. In general, grandparents and sometimes great grandparents constitute part of the Filipino nuclear families.
It is unusual for Filipino families to send their elderly to the home for the aged. This value is also shared by the government who had already passed several laws such as Republic Act No. 7432, amended by RA No.9257 (“Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003”) , and further amended by RA 9994, known as the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act, all intended to provide elderly Filipinos with senior citizen discount and other perks to help ease their finances in their golden years.

These privileges apply to both cash and credit card payments.
