February 1, 2026 - Canadian Filipino immigration lawyer Reis Pagtakhan received the Community Involvement Award from the Manitoba Bar Association (MBA) during its mid-winter conference on January 23. The award is one of eight recognition awards “honouring colleagues who demonstrate excellence and commitment to the law, the legal profession and the community at large.”
August 1, 2025 — Mireia Ariana Amba Cuenca, incoming Grade 12 student at Surrey School District’s IB program, has been honing her language skills by challenging herself in speech competitions in French and in English. She is also honing her singing and Filipino language skills by performing with a youth choir that sings Tagalog and other dialects spoken in the Philippines. She is known as someone who always tries very hard to succeed at things that she does.
June 1, 2025 – The annual CFNet Outstanding Filipinos in Canada awards are presented in June to celebrate Filipino Heritage month and to honor Filipinos in Canada who have not only succeeded in their respective fields of endeavor but have also helped or influenced the Filipino community and Canadians in general while contributing to Canada’s multiculturalism, progress and stature in the world.
June 1, 2025 – To celebrate Filipino Heritage Month, the Filipino Canadian Lawyers Network – Les avocats philipino-canadiens (FCLN-RAPC) is saluting the two new judges appointed in British Columbia in 2024, that is, Justice Edlyn Laurie of the BC Supreme Court and Judge Mylene de Guzman of the BC Provincial Court., at a virtual webinar on June 2, 2025, 6:30-7:30 p.m. EDT.
May 16, 2025 - This year, the Canadian government recognized Canadian Filipino Net’s (CFNet) Dr. Rey Pagtakhan as one of its notable Canadians of Asian origin who have made significant contributions to Canadian society as the country celebrates May as Asian Heritage Month.
February 1, 2025 - Unbeknownst to many, a job on TV is not always as glamorous as one would think especially when it means getting up in the wee hours of the morning to deliver news first thing in the morning.
September 1, 2024 - On August 15, 2024, Joy Lazo became the first Filipino Canadian to be inducted onto Rainbow Stage’s Wall of Fame in the Builders’ category. Lazo was one of five inductees honoured during a ceremony attended by friends, family, and Rainbow Stage executives and staff. The event took place just before the opening night performance of Mary Poppins, the second of two shows the company produced this summer.
