Darthe Capellan was born in Davao City, Philippines.

Darthe Capellan, 24, has been acclaimed as Canada’s Male Wrestler of Year.

The announcement was made this month by Wrestling Canada Lutte, the national sport governing body for Olympic style wrestling in Canada.

Capellan is based in Surrey, British Columbia.

The Davao City, Philippines-born Capellan is part of Canada’s wrestling team that will represent the country in the next Olympics.

The 2020 Olympics was supposed to be held this summer but was postponed to next year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wrestling Canada Lutte recalled in its announcement that Capellan won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru in August 2019.

Capellan trains with the Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club in B.C.

Team Canada, which is the Olympic team of the country, recalls online that Capellan won gold in the 57-kilogram division at the 2016 Pan American Championships.

Capellan was also the 2018 and 2019 Canadian champion in the same weight class.
