Lenore R.S. Lim combines traditional and high-tech methods in her art.

A Canadian-Filipino-American printmaker will be recognized at the June 7 gala capping the 2019 explorASIAN Festival in Vancouver.

Lenore R.S. Lim is one of three awardees to be cited for their contributions to pan-Asian and Asian-Canadian arts.

The two other awardees announced by festival organizer Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society (VAHMS) were composer Lan Tung of the Sound of Dragon Society, and the Indian Summer Arts Society.

“This year, we were very honoured to have collected more than twenty excellent nomination entries coming from many different communities, organizations and individuals,” VAHMS president Leticia Sanchez said.

“The great response we received to our call encourages us to continue working hard towards developing our cultural programming and contributing even more to showcase the Asian-Canadian communities,” Sanchez added.

Lim’s artistic technique is described on her website as a “vibrant mixture of printmaking and high technology”.

“One of her highly evolved artistic concerns starts with photocopying or flatbed scanning the raw materials from her art,” Lim’s site notes.

Lim was born and raised in the Philippines. She went to the U.S. in 1975, and later moved to Vancouver in Canada.

She attended the School of Visual Arts in New York. Lim holds a fine arts degree from the University of the Philippines (UP).

Lim was a recipient of the Pamana ng Pilipino Award from the President of the Philippines in 2004. She also received an Outstanding Professional Award for Fine Arts from UP in 2005.

The June 7 recognition gala will be held at the Pink Pearl Restaurant (1132 East Hastings Street).
