Top BC politicians joined Dahong Pilipino in celebrating its 30th year of publication on May 19.
The VIP guests included NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, Attorney General Niki Sharma, MP Bonita Zarillo, MLA Mable Elmore, MLA Bruce Ralston, MLA George Chow, MLA Henry Yao, Mayor of Burnaby Mike Hurley, Burnaby Councillor Maita Santiago, Councillor Lenny Zhou, Councillor Mike Klassen, Councillor Ruby Campbell and School Trustee Lailani Tumaneng. Mayor Mike Hurley of Burnaby entertained the crowd with an impromptu rendition of Brown Eyed Girl.
Awards were given to advertisers and leaders of the community. Other highlights: Art exhibition by Dimasalang Artists Reynato Pablo, Mary Ann Manuel, Rod Pedralba, Vincent Chan and Norman Belen.
The event was MC’d by RJ Aquino. Music was by Savannah and The Vagabonds and the DJ was Eivan Regalado.

Eleanor R. Laquian has written four best-selling books, and co-authored four others with husband Prod Laquian. She has served in various capacities at the University of British Columbia’s Institute of Asian Research as manager of administration and programs; editor and chair, publications committee; and primary researcher of the Asian Immigration to Canada project. She has a degree in journalism from Maryknoll College in the Philippines, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of the Philippines. She did postgraduate studies at the School of Public Communications, Boston University in the U.S.
