July 16, 2023 - Eleanor Laquian is a founding member of the Maple Bamboo Network Society, publisher of CanadianFilipino.Net.
Eleanor R. Laquian, who has served as editor of CanadianFilipino.Net for the last six years – since the start of the online-only publication in 2016 – is stepping down as editor on July 31 in order to spend more time with family and look after her ailing husband. To ensure a seamless transition to the next editor, she will remain acting President of Mable Bamboo Network Society (MBNS), the publisher of CanadianFilipino.Net, and continue her role as head of the editorial board.
Taking over the post of editor is Carlito Pablo. He will start on August 1 as CanadianFilipino.Net embarks on its seventh year of publication. Rachel Ramos-Reid continues as managing editor, Emmy Buccat as MBNS director for fundraising, and Eleanor Guerrero-Campbell as MBNS adviser. Together with Dr. Rey D. Pagtakhan, who recently joined as a member of the MBNS board, they will comprise the CanadianFilipino.Net editorial board, which oversees the day-to-day management and operation of the biweekly CanadianFilipino.Net online newsmagazine.
Pablo is a founding member of MBNS, along with Guerrero-Campbell, Clay Campbell, Aprodicio “Prod”, and Eleanor Laquian. These MBNS founders contributed the initial funding to publish the news magazine in 2016 with the volunteered expertise of Arlene Wright, an independent website designer, and Emmy Buccat, social media expert and fund development manager.
Pablo was a staff writer with Canada’s biggest urban weekly, the Georgia Straight of Vancouver, from 2006 to 2022. He has also been editorial consultant for Metro Vancouver-based Filipino community newspaper, Philippine Asian News Today, since 2005. He also contributes to Pancouver, an arts-focused publication headquartered in Vancouver. He was a national reporter with the Philippine Daily Inquirer before coming to Canada in 2005. He started as a journalist for the Ang Pahayagang Malaya in the Philippines. ERL
