July 1, 2021 - We, at Canadian Filipino Net, join the rest of the Philippines in mourning the passing of its 15th president, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III on June 24, 2021.
He was 61. Noynoy, or PNoy as he was fondly called during his presidency, was the proud son of former Philippine president Cory and Ninoy Aquino. It is perhaps best to remember that at PNoy’s state visit to Canada in 2015, then Governor General David Johnston reportedly said this to him: “You are an honourable man because you have planted trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” There are those of us who do our little bit in bringing pride to our race knowing we will likely never benefit from that tree we plant but like PNoy with his quiet sense of duty, we soldier on.
