June 16, 2023 - In commemoration of the Filipino Migrant Worker’s Day and Filipino Heritage Month in Canada, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver, in partnership with MWO-Vancouver and OWWA-Vancouver, successfully launched the book “Indomitable Canadian Filipinos” edited by Ms. Eleanor R. Laquian on 07 June 2023 at the PCG Lobby.

This is the first book which tells the contemporary history of Filipinos in Canada from 1950 to 2022.  In the book, Ms. Laquian recounts immigration stories of individuals and families in the Filipino community highlighting their achievements, issues, struggles, needs, hopes and dreams.

The book aims to be an ongoing narrative, linking chapters from Introduction to Conclusion, by academicians, researchers, journalists, and essayists who provided the necessary in-depth theorizing and analyzing of the 70-year history of Filipino immigration to Canada.

In her remarks, Consul General Arlene T. Magno said that the book is a testament to the resilience, strength, and perseverance of Filipino migrants in Canada.  She expressed hope that that this book will serve as a source of inspiration to all, and a reminder of the sacrifices and contributions made by Filipino migrants to Canada.

Atty. Melissa Briones of Northam Law delivered the keynote remarks on behalf of Ms. Laquian.  She called on several members of the Filipino Community in the audience whose stories are mentioned in the book to come forward to be recognized.  Kimwell Del Rosario, a concertmaster of the Vancouver Academy Senior Strings Orchestra in 2001, provided the entertainment during the event.
