The Department of Canadian Heritage, through its Canada Periodical Fund/Business Innovation Component, awarded a contribution to the Maple Bamboo Network Society (MBNS), publisher of Canadian Filipino Net, to help raise awareness of the new digital periodical, which focuses on issues important to the growing Canadian Filipino community.
On September 16, 2016, the Department of Canadian Heritage approved a $5,000 contribution to MBNS.
"We are pleased that the work of Canadian Filipino Net is recognized as important for Canada. We envision Canadian Filipino Net as a window to the Canadian Filipino community. This grant will not only help connect the Canadian Filipino community throughout Canada, but also raise awareness about this community’s achievements and issues to mainstream and multicultural Canada, and key institutions in the Philippines," said Eleanor Guerrero-Campbell, President and CEO of the MBNS.
About 2000 organizations and institutions have been invited to free subscribe to Canadian Filipino Net, and to engage actively with the magazine through social media and emailing their comments and suggestions.
Starting January 16, 2017, subscribers will receive teaser newsletters for every new edition of Canadian Filipino Net.
Canadian Filipino Net first published in July 2016 and has since been publishing twice a month. The completely volunteer-run online magazine is based in Vancouver, with volunteer contributors and correspondents throughout Canada.
