The Philippine National Bobsled Team will start their training in Whistler, BC, starting this November. Welcoming them to Vancouver, the Philippine Consulate General is holding a reception in their honor on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 5.30 pm at the Consulate reception area.
The two-man bobsled team of Rolando Isidro and Jerby Deriada, who are members of the Philippine Coast Guard, will be accompanied by Mr. Thelmo “Buddy” Cunanan Jr., Chief of the Philippine National Bobsled, Luge, and Skeleton Association, Inc. (PNBLSA), who established the team in 2017 and moved its base to Calgary in 2018.
The team recently won bronze in the men’s category at the 2019 Alberta Cup Provincial Championship held in Calgary last March. The competition is part of the team’s journey to becoming the first-ever bobsled team from the Philippines and Southeast Asia to gain a spot in the 2022 Winter Olympics.
In support and recognition of the team’s commitment and strong work ethic, the Consulate encourages the Filipino community in Vancouver to partner with the PNBLSA in their endeavor to achieve their goal to compete in the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing, China.
